An Evaluation of Prolonged Simulated Driving Combined with In-vehicle Police Work
نویسندگان
چکیده
INTRODUCTION There is an increased prevalence of back pain associated with professional drivers [1]. It has been shown that up to 50 percent or 6 hours of an urban police officer’s shift is spent seated in a vehicle and on average 40 percent of in vehicle time involves data entry or retrieval activities with the mobile data terminal (MDT) [2]. The purpose of this investigation was to quantify postural changes in response to prolonged simulated driving, prolonged driving with an intermittent typing task and prolonged in-vehicle typing.

Controller Design for Fuel Consumption Reduction of a CVT Equipped Vehicle
the primary objective of this work is to introduce a gear ratio selection strategy for a CVT equipped vehicle and show its effectiveness on the fuel consumption reduction. AFuzzy control algorithm is designed for this purpose. Anonlinear model is developed for simulating the longitudinal vehicle dynamics with accelerator pedal applied by the driver as an input. In order that pedal input valu...
متن کاملThe impact of mobile data terminal use on posture and low-back discomfort when combined with simulated prolonged driving in police cruisers.
The introduction of mobile computing within a constrained vehicle environment has led to changes in the task demands of occupational groups such as professional drivers and law enforcement officers. The purpose of this study was to examine how mobile data terminal (MDT) use interacts with prolonged driving to induce postural changes or low-back discomfort. Eighteen participants (9 male, 9 femal...
متن کاملField quantification of physical exposures of police officers in vehicle operation.
Mobile police officers perform many of their daily duties in their vehicles. Combined workspace inflexibility and prolonged driving create potential musculoskeletal injury risks. Limited research exists that quantitatively describes postural and load exposures associated with mobile police work. The purpose of this study was to characterize officer activity during a typical workday and identify...
متن کاملThe effects of driver training on simulated driving performance.
Given that the beneficial effects of driver training on accident risk may not be an appropriate criterion measure, this study investigates whether professionally trained and experienced drivers exhibit safer driving behaviour in a simulated driving task compared with drivers without professional driver training. A sample of 54 police trained drivers and a sample of 56 non-police trained drivers...

Background and Purpose: Clinicians and other health care providers should consider association of acute medical conditions and motor vehicle collision. This study was performed to determine the role of acute medical conditions, drugs, and alcohol in motor vehicle accidents. Methods: This study was a narrative review performed during 2006 to 2016 through searching electronic databases (PubMed...
